Cardiovascular and pulmonary vascular outcomes research
We focus on improving our understanding of how cardiovascular and pulmonary vascular medications are used in real-world practice and their impact on effectiveness and safety outcomes to improve patient care.
Our collaboration with the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute enables us to accelerate our research endeavors at one of the largest academic institutions in the country.
We have published over 30 outcomes research manuscripts over the past decade that have evaluated pharmacotherapeutics in practice, including anticoagulants antiplatelets, prostacyclins, and guideline-directed medical therapies for heart failure.
Cardiovascular pharmacogenomics implementation
We focus on pharmacogenomics (PGx) implementation into practice for patients with cardiovascular disease to improve outcomes through precision pharmacotherapy. Our Pittsburgh Pharmacogenomics (PittPGx) team leads initiatives at UPMC, one of the nation’s largest health systems. Through the PreCISE-Rx (Pharmacogenomics-guided Care to Improve the Safety and Effectiveness of Medications), we have shown that PGx implementation is feasible by genotyping >5,000 patients since 2015 using standard of care testing and pharmacist-led clinical services.
