Our scientific focus areas include pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics, pharmacology, drug metabolism and transport, advanced modeling, vaccine development, implementation science, and analysis of large data sets of patient outcomes. Our research spans many therapeutic areas including cardiology, critical care, immunology, infectious disease/HIV, kidney disease, neurology, oncology, transplant, and women’s health.

Making Significant Impact

Accelerating precision medicine

We're enabling a learning health system through pharmacogenomics-guided prescribing. We've genotyped >20,000 patients, led implementation-focused clinical trials, and built clinical decision support for >100 gene-drug pairs.
Creating safe and effective medicines

We're developing novel products like vaginal gels and nasal sprays that women can use to prevent diseases, giving them more control over their health.
Next generation vaccine strategies

We study innate immunity to develop mechanism guided therapies including patented solutions that have contributed to FDA-approved vaccines to prevent respiratory infections.
Optimizing medication use in special populations

We study pharmacokinetics in special populations such as in organ transplantation, pregnant women, and cancer patients. Dr. Venkat in particular contributed significnatly to in vitro, preclinical and clinical research on tacrolimus, a drug now used in >90% of transplant patients.
Accurate and sensitive analyte measurement

We use state-of-the-art ultra performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry to measure drug concentrations in a variety of biological matrices.
