UPMC selected at pilot site led by Dr. James Coons

People: Coons, James

UPMC was selected as a pilot site for a funded research collaboration with the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS), entitled “Quality Improvement (QI) Project to Determine Impactful and Lasting Change in the Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation (AF).” The UPMC pilot is led by Pitt School of Pharmacy faculty member, Jim Coons, PharmD and Sandeep Jain, MD (Heart and Vascular Institute, Center for Atrial Fibrillation). Core team members include Erica Byers, CRNP, Eric Dueweke, MD, Suresh Mulukutla, MD, Francis Solano, MD, and Evan White, PharmD. The UPMC pilot is one of two sites, along with Geisinger Health, to have each received a 2 year award. The focus of the project led by Coons and his team is on anticoagulation optimization through a specialized center for atrial fibrillation. Ultimately, the effort aims to develop and refine the HRS-sponsored adaptive QI Framework and digital resource library to facilitate and expedite adoption of AF QI best practices.
